Leadership Akron is proud to feature Class 22 graduate Judi Hill, who was recently named President of the NAACP.


Judi, congratulations on becoming the new President of the NAACP. What was that day like for you, going through the voting of the membership for the presidency and then learning that you were the elected candidate?


The process was an interesting one. I was first vice president of the Akron Branch NAACP for over ten years. I truly enjoyed working with the organization. The mission aligned with my beliefs. Mrs. Averitt, past president of the Akron NAACP asked me to run several times in the past. This year I said yes. I think it surprised her, and I definitely surprised myself. The process was not as easy as I thought. The day of the election, my focus was on life. (Continued...)

Community Leadership Institutes A short-course (2-3 months) that introduces participants to principles and practices of community leadership. The CLI’s blend leadership development with community involvement and awareness, and can be customized for the specific needs of a company/organization.
