AKRON, OH - Leadership Akron and Torchbearers signed an agreement to collaborate more closely in efforts to advance community leadership in the Akron area. After partnering through one and two year agreements, this new affiliation agreement will allow the two groups to work together on an ongoing basis. Through this collaboration, Leadership Akron continues its reach to a broader range of leadership through Torchbearers, an organization for young leaders.
Initiated in 2009, the collaboration has led to an improved TB College, the leadership development program for members of Torchbearers. Other activities have included a joint service project as well as cooperation on operations and programs.
Over the last year, Torchbearers has further enhanced its programming, communications, and networking with Akron-area leaders as a result of the agreement. Based on the success of their working relationship, both groups signed a newly-drafted agreement that will strengthen the two organizations’ affiliation through coordinated fundraising, ex-officio board representatives and collaboration on marketing efforts. Both organizations will retain independent governance and distinct identities. Torchbearers will identify as an independent affiliate of Leadership Akron.
For 29 years, Leadership Akron has equipped participants for community involvement and leadership. “The agreement assures that Leadership Akron and Torchbearers will continue strengthening one another for the foreseeable future, enhancing both organizations’ impact in our community,” says Mark Scheffler, Leadership Akron’s President.
Torchbearers was founded in 2003 by Akron area residents Scott Read and Jefferson Satterfield, both alumni of Leadership Akron. The organization was created to identify, connect, and develop young leaders in Greater Akron. The organization connects senior established leadership to the community leaders of the future. “The support of Leadership Akron has been key to Torchbearers’ success, helping us to create meaningful opportunities for community service and leadership development for our members,” said Torchbearers president, Amanda Leffler. “As Torchbearers celebrates its 10th Anniversary, I can say with confidence that the relationship continues to grow stronger with each passing year. We are excited to continue working together to address issues impacting the community.”
