Chief Development and Marketing Officer
To oversee and lead the corporate giving, individual giving, major gifts as well as additional revenue generation channels for the organization and drive fund development growth. This position will work to set a comprehensive strategy for all the areas of fundraising, marketing and public relations and in turn will develop tactics and processes that allow for measurement of success, accountability and management of the teams. As a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Development and Marketing Officer designs and implements a comprehensive development plan that emphasizes relationship-based fundraising, especially with high-net-worth individuals, to ensure the long-term financial health and growth of UWSM. This position will also steward the Annual Campaign Chair, Tocqueville Chair and any other identified Board volunteer roles and work closely with other C-Suite executives throughout the community.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fundraising Strategy: This position will lead and execute the comprehensive fundraising strategy and scope of our corporate & individual campaigns, identifying and cultivating donors. Lead strategies and efforts in planned giving and execute special events to support donor relations and fund development.
Major Gifts: In coordination with the President & CEO, lead the organization’s major gifts strategy—identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of individual donors capable of making high-impact contributions. Build systems and structures to support a sustainable major gifts pipeline, including donor research, moves management, and personalized cultivation plans.
Marketing and Communications: Oversee a comprehensive marketing & communications strategy, lead by the Marketing team, to support fundraising and programming efforts. The marketing team executes materials, strategies and events promoting and fundraising for the organization.
Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular reports to the CEO, Board, and other stakeholders on fundraising progress and performance. This will also include necessary compliance for all applicable laws and regulations related to fundraising and development activities.
Grants: This position will oversee and develop a grant strategy that is focused on sourcing and tracking grant receivables work. This includes the sourcing of new national and local grant opportunities that align and advance the work of our organization. They ensure the timely reporting on outcomes to grant partners.
Leadership: This position provides leadership to the workplace, grant, individual and marketing teams. Sets measures for success for the departments and holds the supervisors of the team accountable to the outcomes as outlined. It works externally with board volunteers to provide needed and necessary data and updates to have the volunteers support the revenue generation of the organization.
Connections: This position works with external stakeholders to create connections in the community with workplaces and leaders who can support the work of the organization. Collaborate closely with the CEO, board members, and other senior leaders to leverage their networks and deepen donor relationships.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 7 years in a Fund Development Leadership Role or equivalent external relationship-based role within a nonprofit, philanthropic or public institution.
Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, marketing, or a related field is required.
Master's degree (e.g., MBA, Nonprofit Management) is preferred.
Experience in managing teams and projects, proven track record of growing giving in prior roles.
Experience in donor databases and other relevant software.
Proven experience in the field of communications and marketing.
Financial Acumen – overseeing budget, providing projections and developing budgets.
Experience in Strategic planning and planned development in a leadership role.
Competent in MS Office products.

Understanding the organizational dynamics to navigate change and influence others effectively with the department and organization.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Position is primarily a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sedentary work at a desk and computer.
Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office utilizing stairs or elevator.
Minimal lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally.
Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours on occasion.
After-hours event attendance occasionally.
Ability to pass pre-employment testing including background check, drug and alcohol screen.
Valid driver license and proof of insurance. Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit & Medina County area.
